A series of sculptures called "The Roses" can be seen along the traffic malls on Park Avenue in Manhattan, between 57th and 67th streets from January 25th through May 31st, 2011.
The Paul Kasmin Gallery, in conjunction with New York City’s Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Fund for the Park Avenue Sculpture Committee, is funding the display of Will Ryman’s 38 sculptures of rose blossoms towering as high as 25 feet, complimented by 20 individual scattered rose petals,
I took these photos during the last week in February, right before I went on my trip to Sydney, Australia, (which you can read about on this link) so the pretty roses have a sugarcoating of fresh snow that fell that morning.
The gallery web site states:
"The Roses will present viewers with a sculptural tribute
to the larger than life qualities of New York City."
"Colossal blossoms ranging from five to ten feet in diameter at the bud will spring up from steel stems in eight clusters of four to six rose buds each. Drawing inspiration from nature’s cycles and seasons, each cluster is complete with an inhabiting brass ladybug, aphid, beetle or bee for an element of both reality and humor in reference to the viewers’ own bug’s-eye-view of The Roses’ gigantic blossoms."

The large colorful pink roses certainly helped to brighten the winter landscape!

The New York City Parks and Recreation web site states that "the exhibition is meant to be fun and playful." Seeing this beautiful sculptural rose display certainly put a smile on my face, and I hope it will do the same for you!
PS: I'm still waiting for our second grandson's birth! My daughter-in-law and son feel that this weekend's "Super Perigee Moon" might encourage that to happen. You can see more about this event on this video:
